Performance, display and software
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the Leitzphone is fast in day-to-day use and competitive in benchmarks. In Geekbench 6, it posted around 3,609 in single-core and 10,784 in multi-core, placing it alongside other Gen 5 flagships such as the OnePlus 15 (about 3,670/11,061) and near the iPhone 17 Pro Max (about 3,907/10,023). Demanding games run smoothly, app switching is immediate, and sustained performance remains stable. The 6.9-inch OLED panel is bright, sharp and vibrant, with ample visibility outdoors and nuanced color. The phone ships with Android 16 and a Leica-inspired interface that uses monochrome app tiles and wallpapers. If that aesthetic is not for you, themes can be changed easily. Built-in tools include a handy translator; most advanced smart features come via Google’s services.
Battery life, charging and durability
A 6,000mAh battery powers the package. In a controlled 3-hour video streaming test, the Leitzphone dropped to roughly 85% from full—solid, but a step behind battery champs that finish near 90% or better. Heavy photography can be demanding; a half day of near-constant shooting can push the battery toward the 60% mark, so travelers should keep a power bank handy. When you do plug in, wired charging up to 90W gets you meaningful top-ups in short sessions, provided you use a compatible charger. Durability is strong thanks to an IP68 rating, making rainy-day street sessions or dusty trails far less stressful.
The Leica Leitzphone by Xiaomi is the rare handset that truly prioritizes the act of taking pictures. Pros include superb image quality with convincing dynamic range, Leica’s excellent color profiles, a variable telephoto that behaves like a real lens, a tactile control ring, a bright 6.9-inch OLED, fast Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 performance and IP68 protection. Drawbacks are significant: a very high price, battery life that is good rather than great, some scenes that show heavy-handed processing at 200MP, and the fact it is not officially sold in the US. If you want the same core imaging architecture without the Leica-first interface and ring, the standard Xiaomi 17 Ultra is a logical alternative that should cost less. For serious photographers who want the best camera phone experience and appreciate Leica’s look and ergonomics, however, the Leitzphone justifies its premium by delivering a tool that consistently produces images you will be proud to keep.
